In 2019 I renovated my garage studio so I could hold small classes for encaustic painting. I share the garage with my hubby. I just pretend his half isn’t there ;) I occasionally take up more than half the space.
A tidy studio…it didn’t last long!
brand new setup - August 2019 - 50th birthday present
Hubby had to build the countertop out of mdf — I didn’t need anything fancy.
Under the aluminum foil are leftover puppy training pads. I put heat-resistant silicone baking mats on top of this.
Power is an issue. I had electricians install numerous circuits so I wasn’t blowing a breaker all the time. Even so, I stage my griddles and heat things up slowly.
A little vid of my studio.
All set up!
I took off my gloves and came back later…
Extra space…you can see the little table where I have a cast-iron aluminum camping griddle. I use it for fusing with my larger torches. Large paintings generally hang off the edges of the table and I have room to walk around.
I tuck stools out of the way when not in use. Still pretty tight with three people and four students is my maximum!!
I added some LED light strips in December of 2020. I love this! They are very programmable. Thanks to the kids for buying these for me.
I repurposed my daughters headboard in my studio.
Side note: When we took these of the walls in the kids bedrooms, they destroyed the paint. We were painting anyway, but be forewarned. I will be afraid to pull these off my cabinets, I’m sure.
And her dresser…though it’s full of mostly her art supplies lol.
