ARTIST STATEMENT

Encaustic medium is a perfect fit for my inquisitive nature and my passion for learning all things.  I am as enamoured with the glassy smooth surfaces as I am with the textural capabilities of wax, and the ability to transform a painting into something sculptural is a constant source of wonder and delight.

I continually search out the joy of small things to be found in a melancholy subject, and as a result, I am inevitably drawn to sparse, stark landscapes that are often reflective of our northern winter landscape.  I continue to explore wax medium in an effort to express those hard-to-articulate emotions visually through elements of abstraction.  The properties of encaustic wax provide limitless opportunities for exploration of not only subject matter but technique.

The greatest reward of my work is when someone can connect their experiences with something I have created.

BIOGRAPHY

In 2010 I participated in an encaustic painting workshop and fell in love with the vibrant colour and versatility of the medium.  I am self-taught with various workshop instruction in calligraphy, coloured pencil, graphite, and acrylic. I continue to register for workshops online and in person, and I participate in advanced encaustic education when available.  I am also an avid amateur photographer.
